freshmare I'm no connoisseur of the fiddle, and know even less about traditional Irish music, but this album is a real treat to anyone invested in traditional European folklore. Favorite track: The Doon, The Donegal, St. Anne’s (Reels) - {feat. Séamus Connolly (Fiddle) & Joe Burke (Flute)}.

Marty Somberg I began playing Traditional Irish music in the late 1960s and Aggie Whyte was one of my best early influences. I’m very happy to have this extensive collection!

about

Aggie Whyte 1920-1979. An accomplished and highly regarded Traditional Irish Fiddle player, who hailed from Ballinakill, Co. Galway. She came from generations of musicians; her father, Tommy Whyte, was a founding-member of the famous Ballinakill Céilí Band. She was awarded the All-Ireland Senior Fiddle competition in Cavan in 1954 and the Gold Medal in the competition for traditional fiddle playing at the Oireachtas in 1958.

"Aggie’s music had a profound influence on me. It was different from anything I had heard up to that point in my musical life. To me, her playing was ahead of its time!! She was respected by so many of her contemporaries in the world of Irish Music. She was ever so giving with her music. A joy to watch and to listen to! Aggie Whyte was a lovely woman and a friend to all!"
- Séamus Connolly

“Her musicianship was in a class of its own. She had the real East Galway style of music and a great, flowing bow hand.”
- Fr. PJ Kelly

“She could bring an expression and interpretation to very old music that was unique and very much part of the local style and tradition. “
- Joe Burke

“Her music was sweet and powerful all at once and is a great reference for fiddle players.”
- Mairtín O’Connor
